2.Carnatic Music & Hindustani Music

The invasion of Muslims from the north, which began in the early 8th century, influenced the division of Indian music into Carnatic music (South Indian classical music) and Hindustani music (North Indian classical music).

Gita Govinda, written by Jayadeva Goswami in the 12th and 13th centuries, is a poem (story) spelt out by replacing the devoted belief of the woman “Radha” to “Lord Krishna” with an expression of affection, and its metre (lays) and poetry are frequently featured in many music and dances, and have a great influence on Indian art of today.

In addition, “Gita Govinda” is said to be the first work in which “Raag” and “Taala” were designated for the musical compositions. In the book of Sangita Ratnakara, written by Sarnga Deva in the 13th century, the fact is described that music was divided into different systems in North and South India at that time.
